Tournaments

Single elimination, double elimination, Swiss, leaderboard and free-for-all tournaments with one on-chain prize pool.

A tournament is many matches with one prize pool. Every entry fee goes into a single escrow for the whole tournament, and the prizes are paid from it when the tournament ends. Tournaments take 2 to 256 entrants.

Formats

FormatHow it works
Single eliminationLose once and you are out. Byes fill the bracket up to a power of two. The two semifinal losers play a third-place match, so 3rd and 4th are decided on the board.
Double eliminationYou are out after two losses. Losers drop into a losers bracket. When the tournament enables a grand final reset, the grand final is replayed if the losers-bracket winner beats the unbeaten player.
SwissA fixed number of rounds where players with the same record meet. Nobody is eliminated.
LeaderboardEveryone plays within a window. A win is worth 3 points, a draw 1, a loss 0. A match can be started until the window closes, and it still counts if it ends after the close.
Free-for-allOne race for the whole field. Every player trades at the same time for the race length, and the final standings are the scores at the bell: best score 1st, next 2nd, and so on. Equal scores go to the better seed. Solo only.

Each match is a normal contest in the tournament's game mode. A free-for-all is a single lobby with every entrant in it. There is a 1 minute break between a match being set and its trading window opening.

Check-in and seeding

A tournament can have a check-in window, shown on its page (usually opening 15 minutes before the start). The captain of each entry checks in from the tournament page, and checked-in entrants are seeded first. Checking in is not required to play. An entrant without a linked trading wallet for the tournament's chain forfeits their match when it starts.

Prizes

The prize pool is the entry fees minus the rake, split by final place:

EntrantsPrize split by place
2 to 81. 70%, 2. 30%
9 to 161. 50%, 2. 25%, 3. 15%, 4. 10%
17 to 641. 40%, 2. 22%, 3. 14%, 4. 10%, 5. 3.5%, 6. 3.5%, 7. 3.5%, 8. 3.5%
65 to 2561. 35%, 2. 20%, 3. 12%, 4. 9%, 5. 4%, 6. 4%, 7. 4%, 8. 4%, 9. 1%, 10. 1%, 11. 1%, 12. 1%, 13. 1%, 14. 1%, 15. 1%, 16. 1%

A tournament can pay up to the top 16: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, then 5th to 8th and 9th to 16th. In an elimination bracket the players knocked out in the same round share a place: the quarterfinal losers split the 5th to 8th prizes equally, the round of 16 losers the 9th to 16th. Rounding dust goes to first place, so the payouts always add up to the pool exactly. If a tournament is cancelled, every entry fee is refunded.

In a team tournament every member of a team gets an equal share of the team's prize, paid to whoever paid that seat's entry.

Teams

Team tournaments are entered by a team's captain, who pays the entry for every seat. If the team withdraws before the start, every seat is refunded to the captain. See Teams.
